Frank Sinatra started an eight-week run of live performances at New York’s Paramount Theatre. Nearly 400 policemen were needed to handle his screaming “bobbysoxer” fans.
1944 – The New York Times reviews the play “Trio” about a relationship between a female college teacher and a young woman. “Trio” was originally scheduled to open on November 8, 1944 at the Cort Theater, however theater owner Lee Shubert refused to rent it based on the play’s themes of an older woman’s feelings for a girl. Elmer Rice, lease-holder of the Belasco Theatre, allowed the production to open there, where it was still a subject of controversy. It was finally ordered to close by New York License Commissioner Paul Moss who refused to renew the Belasco’s license if “Trio” remained open; it closed on February 24, 1945.

Brenda Lee is slightly injured when she runs into her burning Nashville home to rescue her poodle, Cee Cee. However, it is too late as the pet succumbs to smoke inhalation and the home is destroyed by the flames. Brenda’s hit, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, that featured Boots Randolph on saxophone, was still riding high on the charts.
1963
Michelle Douglas was born on 30 December 1963 in Ottawa, Ontario
Douglas began a promising career in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1986 but was honourably discharged for being a lesbian. She launched a successful lawsuit against the military that resulted in the end of its discriminatory policy against gays and lesbians. Douglas has gone on to work with numerous charitable organizations and was director of international relations at the Department of Justice. In September 2019, she became executive director of the LGBT Purge Fund.

12-30-1964 Sophie Ward – Born in London, England. She is an English actress and the
daughter of the actor Simon Ward. Her film roles include the part of Elizabeth Hardy in the film Young Sherlock Holmes. She had the recurring role of Dr. Helen Trent in the long-running television series, Heartbeat. In 1988, she married veterinary surgeon Paul Hobson and had two sons. They divorced in 1996 after Ward became involved with Korean-American writer Rena Brannan and came out as a lesbian. Ward and Brannan had a civil partnership ceremony in 2005 and in 2014 the couple legally married.

1998 – New Ways Ministries, a Catholic group, took out a full-page ad in the New York Times calling for an end to anti-gay violence.

According to a Nielsen SoundScan survey, total CD album sales were down 10.7% in 2002, marking the sharpest sales decrease from the previous year in the 11-year tracking history. It was the second straight year the market declined, following steady growth since Nielsen first began tracking the US market in 1991. Total album sales in 2002 were 681 million, compared with 762.8 million the previous year. Country album sales posted the largest increase, as sales rose 12.2% from 2001. This rise was largely fuelled by such crossover sensations The Dixie Chicks, Shania Twain, and Faith Hill.
Former Supremes singer Diana Ross was allegedly caught driving under the influence in Tucson, Arizona. The 58 year old Ross was pulled over by police responding to a report that her vehicle had been swerving. Her blood-alcohol content was determined to be 0.20, more than twice the legal limit. Ross, who was alone in the car, was polite to police at the scene and was driven by them to the location where she was staying in the area. She was cited with three counts of DUI, all misdemeanors.
